New clients start here!
Schedule a free 20 minute meeting with one of our therapists. Use this consultation session to get to know your new therapist and make sure that they are the right fit for you. Not the right fit? Our therapists can set you up with another member of our team or provide a referral so that you are matched with the right therapist for you.
If you aren't sure who would be the best fit for you, email us at admin@mcculloughfamilytherapy.com or call us at 303-551-9214.
New Client Consultation for Reunification Therapy / Court Involved Family Therapy
We offer family therapy and reunification therapy for both court ordered clients and those involved in a high conflict divorce. You don't have to have a court order to work with us. If your family is finding that a child is resisting and refusing contact with a parent, this is a model of family therapy that can be helpful to navigate those challenges. We can also assist with co-parenting sessions.
Clinical Supervision for Therapists

A Parenting Coordinator / Decision Maker works with separated families whom may be struggling with high conflict or an inability to reach agreement. PC/DMs strive to bring these families to a more peaceful state by aiding in the decision making process. This is a court ordered service and these roles are governed by C.R.S. 14 10 128.1 and C.R.S. 14 10 128.3.
Individual Adult Trauma Therapy - EMDR
EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
We offer both weekly EMDR sessions and day-long Intensives. Intensives are a wonderful way to process what would normally take weeks to accomplish. Think of them like retreats or workshops that can resolve trauma in a few days.

Family Therapy (children ages 2-6)
For families with young children (ages 2-6 years old), PCIT (Parent Child Interaction Therapy) is a specialized therapeutic approach to managing difficult behaviors in children. If you are struggling to agree on how to parent your child, this modality will get you both on the same page. We don't just hand you a worksheet with tips, we actively coach you while you are with your child and we stay with you until you see improvement. Families see dramatic improvement in their child, and in their couple relationship. This is a 15 week coaching program.
Reunification Therapy
We offer family therapy and reunification therapy for both court ordered clients and those involved in a high conflict divorce. You don't have to have a court order to work with us. We can also assist with co-parenting sessions.

Do you have an experience (or several!) that when you think of the memory you still feel a pain spike – a stab of embarrassment, fear, anxiety, panic, or shame? And when these instances come to mind, it is hard to get them out for a while; the images spiral around your brain, your inner-critic comes to life with a helpful “This is your fault, and I told you so!”, and the icky feelings seem to flood your body.
I help individuals identify, process, and release these experiences so they can feel safe, worthy, and capable once again.
Clients come into my office wrestling with disturbances they’ve had weighing them down for years and leave having done the work to process and release those disturbances so they are finally free.
I specialize in providing EMDR intensives. What is an EMDR intensive? EMDR therapy is a focused, effective therapy that helps your brain reprocess distressing memories and sensations caused by trauma. Through guided eye movements, similar to the natural process that occurs during dreaming or REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, EMDR therapy greatly reduces the intensity of these memories, diminishing the emotional, and physical distress associated with them.
EMDR therapy Intensives are longer, more concentrated sessions designed to focus on clearing stuck memories and beliefs and help you see results faster. Instead of meeting weekly for therapy, we meet for full or half day sessions and can make as much progress in 4 hours as 6 hours of weekly sessions.
EMDR therapy can gently untangle the knots of your past and help you find freedom from what’s holding you back.

Laura Aldridge DeRemer
(She/Her/Hers)
Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy Intern
Laura is able to take sliding scale clients. Please schedule a consultation with her to discuss a reduced therapy rate.
When caregivers face extreme behaviors in their children—like intense tantrums, aggression, or defiance—it can feel overwhelming and isolating. Parents may feel drained from constantly walking on eggshells, unsure how to de-escalate the next outburst or handle their child’s intense emotions. It’s disheartening to pour your energy into solutions that seem to fall short, leaving you wondering if anything will ever improve.
Parent Child Interaction Therapy is a unique approach I offer to enhance interactions between caregivers and young children. Caregivers learn how to engage with their children to improve family dynamics. Play therapy is a complimentary therapy approach I offer that allows children to access problem-solving skills that aren’t fully developed. Play therapy speaks to children in their own language, so it’s easier for them to process challenging topics and express themselves. Expressive arts therapy is an additional approach I offer to clients of all ages that encourages healing through creative expression.
My special interest is supporting children to grow into confident and capable adults. I also understand the unique challenges that can present themselves in families with individuals who are neurodivergent or have disabilities. I offer an inclusive disability and neurodiversity informed approach.
Caregivers learn techniques in therapy to respond mindfully to stressors instead of continuing the same knee-jerk reactions that haven’t been working. Strengthening the functioning of an interconnected family system provides long-term relief, and supports children to achieve developmental milestones.
When families learn how to communicate and support one another more effectively, stress is reduced and needs are fulfilled. My clients are empowered by the skills they learn in therapy to establish peace in their hearts and homes.

Joseph McCullough
(He/Him/His)
Marriage and Family Therapy Intern
I provide therapy for couples and families, with teenagers or adult children, who experience recurring rupture in their relationships and want to experience lasting healing and resiliency. Instead of being a safe and secure base from which we can explore the world and its challenges, our families and intimate relationships can instead be places of tension, pain, and stress, driving us apart instead of bringing us together. These splintered relationships are lonely and burdensome, often leaving those involved distancing themselves as a means of relief, further deepening the divide and underscoring the grief that comes with once-warm relationships now turned icy. This, compounded with the general challenges that life brings to us, puts us into a state of overwhelm and disconnect.
Through intentional and skillful work, these relationships can be healed and rekindled. Often, the relational challenges that we face are themselves the keys we need to unlock even deeper and more fulfilling connections with each other. This work isn’t easy or comfortable, but in therapy, we can work through complicated feelings and difficult conversations together, ultimately working toward self-sustaining and resilient relationships that strengthen us and make life’s challenges manageable.
I also work with individuals who are experiencing negative or unwanted aspects of their lives which may be complicating their relationships with others or even themselves. This might be suffering from loneliness, depression, anxiety, or even unwanted sexual behaviors. These burdens, on their own, are heavy to bear, but can often multiply with negative feedback cycles in our relationships (or lack of relationships), making them downright unbearable.
Together we can navigate these challenges, building strength-in-self, resilience, and overall well-being that can free us from unwanted behaviors or the debilitating effects of anxiety or depression as well as reconnecting with others in healthy and sustainable ways. Building a meaningful and connected life can begin today!
I utilize a systemic approach to therapy, looking at the whole of the person and their circumstances and relationships in order to bring about lasting change. I draw on Systemic Family Therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy, Prepare/Enrich, Narrative Therapy, ACT, AEDP, and other therapeutic models to tailor an approach that is effective and works for you where you are right now.
If you’re ready to get started, I offer a 20-min consult to see if we are a good fit. I’d love to help you or a member of your family get the help they need to live a more happy and fulfilling life.

Veronica Shur
(She/Her/Hers)
OTR/L, Marriage and Family Therapy Intern
Many of my clients come to me feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure how to navigate the complexities of their emotions and daily experiences. Children and adults alike often struggle with communication challenges, sensory integration issues, or the lingering effects of past trauma. They describe feeling stuck, caught in cycles of confusion, distress, and frustration that prevent them from expressing themselves fully or moving forward in life. Many also feel as though they are not able to recognize their own voices anymore and day to day life becomes overwhelming.
In my work as an Occupational Therapist and Marriage and Family Therapist-in-training, I integrate evidence-based approaches like Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness to help clients find steadiness amidst the chaos. We identify the sensory triggers, communication barriers, or unspoken feelings that make day-to-day tasks feel like climbing a mountain. Together, we develop practical strategies, reinforce coping skills, and build supportive structures that empower you to recognize your unique strengths and become more resilient in facing life’s hurdles.
By the end of our time together, many clients describe feeling lighter and more confident, as if a fog has cleared. They report improved relationships, increased self-awareness, and a newfound ability to set boundaries and stand firmly in their own identity. Most importantly, they leave with the tools and insight needed to continue thriving long after our sessions have ended, carrying forward a sense of hope and readiness for whatever life holds.
My areas of focus include: Working with children as young as 2 years of age | Support for parents | Sensory or ADD/ADHD/ASD diagnosis for children and adults | childhood trauma/communication skills.

Christine Homan
(She/Her/Hers)
MA, LPC Reunification Specialist
In Reunification Therapy, my specialty at McCullough Family Therapy, I help families whose current modes of interacting are leading to heightened stress, conflict, and disconnection. We will question what has led to the disconnection by looking not only at the patterns of conflict, but also question what we want and expect from our parent-child relationships. Then we will work on building skills that help repair and build resilient, connected relationships so that you and your child can enjoy time together and build a lasting relationship.
I also see individuals, couples, or families whose “idea” of what they want to happen in their lives and/or relationships aren’t matching up with what is actually happening. Burdened with thoughts like “I never do this right” or “things are never going to change,” poor coping skills in times of overwhelm, or lack of practice with healthy communication or boundaries, my clients tend to fall into patterns of pervasive discomfort, heightened stress and despair, or struggling relationships.
Drawing from existential therapy and humanistic principles, I emphasize authenticity, introspection, and personal agency in my therapeutic approach. I help clients look into ways in which patterns - both internal and external - are keeping them from cultivating the life/relationships that they want. That way, when you look towards the future you are excited about the relationships you’ll make, hopeful for the future you can create, and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.
Through compassionate inquiry and practical techniques, I aim to help clients uncover sources of meaning and fulfillment, build healthy connections with self and others, and empower them to lead a more authentic, connected and fulfilling life. Creating a collaborative environment with my clients, we imagine a more hopeful version of what they want life and connection to look like and then we do the work in order to help them get there.
Experience:
Christine is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in combining compassionate existential inquiry with practical skill building in order to help clients create the life they desire. She is trained to support both individuals, families, and couples with her family-systems training from Denver Family Institute and a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from Naropa University. She is currently being mentored by Athena McCullough, MA, LPC, LMFT in Reunification Therapy. (She/Her/Hers)
Marriage and Family Therapy Intern
Being a parent can be a beautiful yet overwhelming experience. As a therapist, I work closely with parents who may be feeling frazzled, disconnected, or uncertain about their role as caregivers, all the way from postpartum through the teenage years. In our work together, I help parents address the emotional and relational challenges that often arise with parenthood—whether it’s communication breakdowns between partners, overwhelming stress, or feelings of being stretched too thin.
My clients often describe feeling as though they’ve lost their sense of self or feel like they’re simply “surviving” rather than thriving. They might feel trapped in a cycle of exhaustion, frustration, and guilt, especially when trying to balance the demands of caring for their child with the need for personal time and space. Many feel like they’re failing or not doing enough for their child or their relationship, leading to stress and anxiety. Couples might also experience a sense of distance from each other, as the demands of parenting leave little time or energy for connection. It’s common for parents to question their ability to “get it right” and to feel overwhelmed by the constant need to adapt to a changing and unpredictable situation.
In therapy, I provide a safe space where parents can express their feelings, validate their experiences, and gain new tools to cope with the pressures of parenthood. We’ll explore the deeper emotional and relational dynamics that may be contributing to their struggles. I use a systemic approach that addresses both the individual and the couple’s needs, helping parents reconnect with each other and with themselves. By the end of our work together, parents often report feeling more grounded and confident in their parenting roles. They find new ways to communicate effectively with each other and feel more emotionally supported in their relationship. Many feel a greater sense of balance, not just as parents, but as individuals—rediscovering who they are outside of their role of “parent.”
The ultimate goal is for parents to leave therapy feeling more connected—both to each other and to their child—and with a deeper sense of self-compassion. They often feel empowered to approach their parenting journey with more patience, understanding, and resilience, knowing they have the tools and support they need to thrive as a family. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the demands of new parenthood, I’m here to walk alongside you in this journey. Together, we’ll create the space for healing, growth, and the re-establishment of connection—so you can embrace the beauty of this chapter with more confidence and joy.
Experience:

Many of my clients describe feeling stuck in painful cycles of conflict, disconnection, and mistrust. Parents may feel frustrated and helpless as they try to reconnect with their children, while children often feel misunderstood or torn between family members. Families facing unresolved trauma or long-standing conflicts frequently express feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, and unsure of how to move forward.

Using evidence-based practices and a compassionate, client-centered approach, I guide families in identifying patterns of dysfunction, improving communication, and rebuilding trust. Together, we work to navigate the challenges keeping them apart—whether it’s co-parenting struggles, estrangement, or deep-rooted family pain. My interventions are tailored to each family’s unique needs, helping them heal and strengthen their relationships step by step. Therapy for Clients
When relationships feel strained or disconnected, it’s common to wonder if happiness will ever return. Tensions may run high, and communication feels more like a battle than a bridge. You might feel alone, unheard, or even hopeless about ever finding joy in your relationships again. Each day can bring new challenges, and it’s easy to feel trapped in a cycle of conflict, silence, or misunderstanding. For many couples and families, the pain lies in a loss of closeness, where interactions feel more strained and less nurturing than they once did.
I am here to help you rediscover that closeness. Together, we’ll create a safe space where you and your loved ones can reconnect, learn to slow down, and truly listen to one another. I believe in practical, compassionate guidance that supports genuine understanding and healing. We’ll explore the underlying issues causing friction, develop tools for healthy communication, and work on building a foundation of trust and empathy. Therapy isn’t just about talking; it’s about finding practical ways to approach conflict, meet each other’s needs, and create a resilient relationship that brings joy and support. In our sessions, we’ll use proven therapeutic techniques tailored to your unique situation to help you reconnect with each other on a deeper level. I’ll guide you through conversations that can feel challenging and give you tools to handle future issues with confidence. Through structured support and evidence-based practices, we’ll address the pain points in your relationships and work to create a space where understanding, appreciation, and care can flourish.
By the end of our work together, you’ll have a new sense of connection with your partner or family members, equipped with tools to sustain healthy communication, even during difficult times. You’ll notice that listening and empathy have become second nature, and conflicts no longer feel insurmountable. Many clients leave therapy with a renewed sense of hope and happiness, and they find that their relationships feel safe, supportive, and deeply fulfilling. With greater understanding and mutual respect, you’ll rediscover the joy and companionship that can make life’s challenges easier to face—together.
If you’re ready to take the first step, I’d love to offer a free 20-minute consultation to see how I can support you in restoring happiness and connection in your relationships.

When clients come to see me about their relationships, the number one problem I hear is they feel disconnected from their partner and they are lacking effective communication. When there is a breakdown in communication, it is common to feel unheard and disrespected. Specifically with my clients working through infidelity, I often hear feelings of betrayal and grieving the loss of trust.
In my experience, one of the first tools that can help relationships struggling with communication is creating a shared language with definitions of words that are said with one meaning and heard with another. It’s important for partners to feel like they are able to say what they mean and feel heard.
Learning to communicate in a different way can help partners have conversations they never thought they could have, learning to understand each other on a level previously unreached. Being able to communicate more effectively has helped partners develop a deeper appreciation for each other and get to know each other in new and exciting ways.
Experience:
Sarah is a Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate specializing in couples therapy, primarily sex therapy and working through infidelity, as well as working with non-monogamous relationships. She has a Certificate in marriage and Family Therapy from the Denver Family Institute and a Master’s degree in Psychology from Arizona State University. I have a dog named Reese who is the light of my life. He’s in training to be a therapy dog!
I have a master’s degree in creative writing and have had some work published in literary magazines. I still like to write as a way to relax and feel creative.
In undergrad I studied darkroom photography and I often spend my weekends exploring Denver and beyond with my trusty Olympus 35mm SLR.

A lot of people feel like they have to navigate the highs and lows of life on their own. You may feel like you have to ignore the feelings of sadness, anxiety or confusion in order to keep pushing forward. You may find yourself wondering how beneficial therapy can be or if you will benefit from talking to a professional about hurdles you’ve experienced. Some may be worried to show vulnerability in a new space, with a new person and worry that sharing their concerns will make the problems more significant.
I acknowledge that starting a new journey can be scary, especially one like therapy which requires a high amount of exploration, courage, and vulnerability. I view therapy as a collaborative process to ensure that my clients feel less alone in their journeys. I work alongside clients to establish goals and expectations using a holistic, and systemic approach. I ensure my clients that the space I hold is safe and secure by welcoming experiences and emotions while working towards creating solutions together. I create a supportive environment for my clients to openly express any concerns they may have, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere. I recognize that I might be the first person you confide in about certain matters and I approach these disclosures with understanding and openness while making sure everyone is heard. I intentionally make space for the identities clients hold, as well as the relationships around them to further understand the contributing factors.
My goal is to create a warm and empathetic therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, understood, and supported on your journey. I’m committed to creating and providing a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space where you can express and explore your feelings openly where we can work through pain together. I would love to help you feel more at ease about entering the world and navigating the hurdles that may arise.
